Broken Readers
Books are trapped like a caged animal, stripped of their expression and knowledge. Trapped by a concrete block, and pages locked to prevent diverse ideas from spreading to the minds of young readers.
Books are trapped like a caged animal,
stripped of their expression and knowledge.
Trapped by a concrete block, and pages locked to prevent diverse ideas from spreading
to the minds of young readers.
The titles clamped by wire by a power system
to keep a dying fire from sparking a new desire.
Words are hidden when minds express their triumphs,
They only last for a short life span as paper cuts,
in the hands of broken readers bleeding in despair.
Politicians eager to censor the work and avoid repair
to protect their ego from being silenced of minds of activism.
Thoughts swirling in the heads of young minds,
waiting to be taught the ideas, and facts of the world, that
are traveling from discovery and curiosity.
But suddenly die at the hands of extreme power,
to allow dying desires to protect their own values.

The poem is beautifully structured, going from difficult ways books are used in todays society to detailing the way a book has such much to give a reader. From lines of one simple topic to excellent writing. Enjoyed the poem.
